PALM COAST, Fla., June 27, 2016 On June 4, Flagler County Emergency Services recognized Florida Hospital Flagler with a WaterSafe award.
Drowning is one of the leading causes of deaths in infants from the ages of one to four, said Dr. Kristin McCabe, Florida Hospital Flagler emergency medical physician and chief of staff. Because Flagler County is surrounded by water, teaching children the importance of water safety is critical.
McCabe worked with Flagler County Fire Rescue volunteer Jim Caggiano to develop a water safety education event on April 30 at the Belle Terre Swim and Racquet Club. In addition to highlighting the importance of water safety, the event included activities such as home safety checklists and CPR for families.
The 2016 WaterSafe award was presented to McCabe at a meeting on June 4 at the Flagler County Emergency Operations Center for her leadership in coordinating this community education event.
