PALM COAST, Fla., May 5, 2016 On April 20, nearly 400 student-athletes from both Flagler Palm Coast High School and Matanzas High School received a special gift from Florida Hospital Flagler: free sports physicals.
We cannot express enough our gratitude to Florida Hospital Flagler for organizing this free physicals event for our student-athletes, said Rich Weber, Matanzas High School athletic director. We understand that it is a huge commitment of resources in regards to logistics and personnel, and are grateful for all that they do for our athletes. Florida Hospital Flagler has been so generous to us in many endeavors and we are very grateful for their support for the school and our athletes.
Florida Hospital Flagler pulled together a team of 15 physicians, 35 staff volunteers and 12 Daytona State College nursing students to volunteer their time and talents to provide free sports physicals for the local student-athletes. This huge undertaking by the hospital enables the students to participate in sporting events for the coming school year.
Considering that the average cost for a student physical at a Walk-In Clinic is approximately $30 each, Florida Hospital Flagler provided approximately $12,000 worth of free services to local teenagers with this annual community event.
The annual sports physicals event has become something we all look forward to at Florida Hospital Flagler, said Robert Davis, Florida Hospital Flagler chief nursing officer. The teamwork and collaboration between physicians, staff and nursing students is inspiring and truly tells a story of the hospitals positive community impact. We wish our local student-athletes luck next year both in the classroom and on the field.
