PALM COAST, Fla., March 8, 2016 On Feb. 25, John Subers was recognized during the Adventist Health System's Conference on Mission in Maitland, Florida.
Subers, executive director of the Florida Hospital Flagler Foundation, received a Community Service Award for his role in developing the Flagler County Free Clinic, an important access point for the disadvantaged.
John knows no strangers, is connected with our mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ, and candidly embodies what we are trying as an organization to accomplish through mission integration," said Ken Mattison, CEO of Florida Hospital Flagler. "His intended purpose is always to honor God through his leadership and service to the community."
I am honored and humbled by this recognition and award, Subers said. I am blessed to work for an organization that truly cares about our community and allows me the opportunity to work so closely with them.
Florida Hospital Flagler has supported the Flagler County Free Clinic for many years and provides an array of diagnostic services, including laboratory and imaging services, to patients they send who qualify for that care. Additionally, the 2015 Moonlit Gala at the Club at Hammock Beach raised nearly $60,000 to support the Flagler County Free Clinic.
On a national scale, emergency rooms are being used inappropriately for primary care services. Because a hospitals ER is designed to treat one-time issues, rather than provide continuous, primary care, it is important that all residents, including those who are underserved, have access to primary care. It is this access to care that help manage chronic diseases like diabetes, cardiac disease, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD).
By managing these conditions in the Flagler County Free Clinic, residents in-need can help take care of the small problems with their health, before they become much larger problems.
