Florida Hospital donates $13,000 to local Boys and Girls clubs

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., December 18, 2017 On Dec. 13, Florida Hospital presented the Boys & Girls Clubs of Volusia/Flagler Counties with a check for $13,000 for the Campaign 4 Kids fund. We are so proud to support our local Boys & Girls Clubs. They are truly making a difference in the lives of the children and families who need them most, said David Ottati, CEO of the Florida Hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties. They do two large fundraisers each year, but with the loss of other funding, they were in need, and we were honored to step in and contribute to this admirable community organization. This gift means a great deal for all eight of our local Boys & Girls Club units, said Neal Coates, unit director of the Oretha Bell/New Smyrna Beach Club. Our mission is to be a positive place for children and to help them become productive, caring, successful adults. This donation will help us do just that and keep our doors open for our children. On Nov. 22, 1992, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Volusia/Flagler Counties was incorporated and started operations in an elementary school in Deltona with one staff member, some volunteers, a $57,000 budget, and the vision to establish a new Boys & Girls Club organization. Since these humble beginnings, the local Boys & Girls Club has grown to provide services in eight club locations in two counties to serve more than 1,500 youth. Providing working families an affordable, safe place for their children afterschool and during the summer, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Volusia/Flagler Counties operates clubs in Daytona Beach, DeLand, Deltona, Edgewater, Holly Hill, Lake Helen, New Smyrna Beach and Palm Coast. Their members are typically the youth whose families cannot afford the fee-based alternatives for afterschool programs. Approximately 68 percent of youth come from single parent homes and 92 percent come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. In the tradition of Boys & Girls Clubs, no child is ever turned away due to inability to pay.
