The Flagler County Sheriffs Office Supports the Local Fight Against Breast Cancer

PALM COAST, Fla., October 14, 2016 On Oct. 3, the Flagler County Sheriffs Office donated $1,600 to Florida Hospital Flagler to help local women in need detect breast cancer earlier through mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies and education.

I cant thank our Flagler County Sheriffs Office enough for this generous donation, said Dr. Ron Jimenez, Florida Hospital Flagler CEO. Besides skin cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among American women. And aside from lung cancer, the death rates for breast cancer are higher than those for any other cancer for women in the U.S. These donations will truly help our community fight against this deadly disease. We are blessed to have such a committed and involved Sheriffs Office, taking care of our community in so many ways.

We raised these funds without using any taxpayer dollars, said Stephen W. Cole, Flagler County Sheriffs Office commander of the Neighborhood Services Division.

About three months ago, the Flagler County Sheriffs Office ordered pink badges for sworn members to purchase. Civilian members had the opportunity to purchase pink shirts with the Flagler County Sheriffs Office logo and a breast cancer ribbon on it.

Purchase of a badge or shirt was completely optional and voluntary, said Cole. For an additional $10 donation to the Florida Hospital Flagler Pink Army, they received the privilege to wear the pink badge or shirt.
