"Roadtrip Nation" crew members film "Dr. Sarah Brumbaugh-Baker, a nurse anesthetist who graduated from AdventHealth University, for an episode on "Nursing Possibilities."
Adrianna, Logan and Maya, three nursing students from Florida, packed into a big green bus to find where their educational and professional journeys may lead.
But this wasn’t just any road trip.
These students were selected by “Roadtrip Nation,” the successful TV series documenting careers around the U.S. for 28 seasons through PBS. Along the 600-mile, 18-day trip, the students and their film crew parked their bus in the AdventHealth Winter Garden parking lot one afternoon to meet up with Dr. Sarah Brumbaugh-Baker, a certified registered nurse anesthetist with U.S. Anesthesia Partners who cares for patients at AdventHealth Central Florida hospitals. She’s also a 2022 Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice graduate of AdventHealth University and has served on and off as adjunct faculty at the university since graduating.
The filming took about two hours in March, and the resulting documentary began airing Nov. 1, Roadtrip Nation | Care and Impact | Nursing Possibilities | Season 28 | Episode 12 | PBS.
As part of the educational mission of “Roadtrip Nation,” each interview subject gets their own career roadmap page filled with a video, day in the life, educational timeline, myth busters, and career milestones. Dr. Brumbaugh-Baker's roadmap can be found at Sarah Brumbaugh-Baker | Roadtrip Nation.
“A lot of nurses are scared away from becoming a CRNA because the schooling is notoriously difficult. It's true that CRNA school is very hard and you have to really be committed. But it's a few challenging years that lead to a career of fulfillment and stability. Just buckle down, stay strong, and get through it,” Dr. Brumbaugh-Baker tells curious students through “Roadtrip Nation’s” website.
The median salary for a nurse anesthetist is $212,650, and CRNAs are in high demand right now, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
