(December 7, 2021) Tampa, FL – AdventHealth Tampa received the highest marks possible for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group, including the Top Teaching Hospital designation. This national distinction recognizes the hospital’s achievements in protecting patients from harm and medical and medication errors in the hospital.

According to The Leapfrog Group, hospitals achieving Top Hospital distinction have better systems in place to prevent medication and medical errors, higher quality of maternity care, and lower infection rates, among other safety criteria that is evaluated. Hospitals that are eligible to receive a Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade must have received an “A” in the most recent round of scoring.
The Leapfrog Group also announced all AdventHealth hospitals in the West Florida Division achieved an “A” or “B” grade for hospital safety for Fall 2021, including:

- AdventHealth North Pinellas - “A”

- AdventHealth Zephyrhills - “A”
The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, injuries, accidents, and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm. Across all states, 32% of hospitals received an "A," 26% received a "B," 35% received a "C," 7% received a "D," and less than 1% received an "F.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
