KISSIMMEE, Fla., - Two years ago, AdventHealth introduced a new concept of whole-person care with the opening of the AdventHealth Partin Settlement Health Park. The facility pairs the latest technology with concierge-level services, delivering convenient and connected health care all on one campus. In addition, the health park presents a free quarterly lifestyle program that includes topics like nutrition, fitness, and mental health.

Recently at the health park, Edwin Cabrera, executive chef with AdventHealth’s Center for Nutritional Excellence, presented a class on nutrition. During the 60-minute program Chef Edwin did a cooking demo on easy cardiac- and diabetic-friendly meals.
“What I love about my role as a chef is understanding different diseases and how they can be impacted by nutrition. I am no longer bombarding a plate with just flavors, what I’m doing is focusing on how the food is going to provide energy to the person for better health,” Cabrera said.
Participants of the class learned how food is a vital source of energy and how having a balanced diet can help them achieve health goals.
The vision for the AdventHealth health parks is not only to provide health care services, but also to be part of the whole health journey of the patients and community. Each quarter, different lifestyle programs will be available. This innovative approach to health care focuses on the mind, body and spirit.
“We not only want our patients to receive core services but also want them to have access and feel part of a health park community in which they can take part in our lifestyle events that include nutritional counseling, cooking demos, fitness classes, and mental health talks,” said Joel George, director of AdventHealth Health Parks. “We are not meant to do life alone; community is what we are all about.”
The next nutrition class is set for Wednesday, April 27 at the AdventHealth Clermont Health Park. Those interested can register here.
Later this year, there will be a class focused on activity and fitness followed by a class on mental health. For more information, please visit AdventHealth Health Park | AdventHealth.
In addition to the health parks in Kissimmee and Clermont two more are under construction in Port Orange and Lake Mary.
