ORANGE CITY, Fla., March 12, 2020 - AdventHealth Fish Memorial recognized registered nurses Jissy Chirayath and Jennifer Kemmerling with the DAISY award.
The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care provided by nurses.
Chirayath is a nurse on the medical surgical unit and was nominated for this recognition by a patient’s family. When her patient’s mother was experiencing a great deal of pain, Chirayath went above and beyond to accommodate her needs.
“Jissy’s outstanding patient care and service meant so much to us during a difficult time,” the family member wrote in a nomination form.
Kemmerling is also a nurse on the medical surgical unit and was nominated for enlisting the help of her husband, Adam, to help an elderly patient obtain a special gift for his wife’s birthday. The patient was unable to leave the hospital to buy his wife a present, so Kemmerling asked Adam to purchase a bouquet of flowers, a card and a cake as a surprise for when the patient’s wife came to visit later that day.
Created in 1999, more than 2,500 healthcare facilities in all 50 states, as well as 15 other countries, use the DAISY Award to honor nurses.
In recognition of this honor, Chirayath and Kemmerling received a bouquet of daisies, a certificate, a tote bag, and a hand-carved stone sculpture of the “Healer’s Touch” by an artist of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.
Their department, the AdventHealth Fish Memorial medical surgical unit, also received cinnamon rolls and a DAISY banner to display.
