On September 18, 2025, AdventHealth Manchester marked a major milestone in its surgical history with the successful completion of its first Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR) case. This was not just a routine procedure. It was a complex operation that showcased the depth of expertise and collaboration across our surgical team.
More Than a Standard EVAR
The case involved several advanced vascular procedures, including:
- EVAR with aorta/bifurcated femoral grafts performed with bilateral femoral cutdowns
- Left external iliac artery stenting
- Right femoral artery atherectomy
- Right femoral artery patch angioplasty
This combination of interventions required precision, coordination, and a high level of surgical skill. The team rose to the challenge, executing each step with excellence and care.
Voices from the Team
In internal communications, Jarrett Terpstra, Director of Surgical Services, shared the news with pride:
“We have completed our first ever EVAR case in Manchester. This case ended up being much more than a standard EVAR. The team did such an amazing job. Patients are alert and oriented in PACU.”
Chief Nursing Officer James Nelson echoed the sentiment:
“What an incredible achievement. The team's remarkable effort and skill are clear, and it's wonderful to hear that the patient is doing well.”
Why It Matters
This case represents more than a technical achievement. It is a testament to the growth of surgical capabilities in our region and reflects AdventHealth Manchester’s commitment to bringing advanced care to our community, close to home.
The successful EVAR case was also highlighted in the hospital’s internal timeline presentation, marking it as a key moment in 2025 alongside other major initiatives such as the cardiology service line launch and the Foundation Banquet.
A Team Effort
From pre-op planning to post-op recovery, this case was a collaborative triumph. The patient’s smooth recovery — alert and enjoying a cup of coffee in PACU — is a reflection of the care and dedication that defines our team.
