- High-dose rate brachytherapy is a type of targeted radiation therapy for more focused treatments and is especially useful in gynecologic cancers.

M. Jameel Kyasa, MD, is Board-certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology and Hematology. He received his medical degree from Aleppo University in Aleppo, Syria, and his Internal Medicine residency with the Cleveland Clinic Health System. Dr. Kyasa completed his Hematology and Medical Oncology fellowship at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Ark. Clinical areas of interest include lung, head and neck and breast cancer.
Abdulraheem Qasem, MD, is Board-certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology and Hematology. He received his medical degree from Jordan University of Science and Technology School of Medicine, and his Internal Medicine residency at King Hussein Cancer Center in Amman, Jordan, and the University of Missouri Kansas City. Qasem completed his Hematology Oncology fellowship at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he also received a graduate certificate in clinical research. Clinical areas of interest include gastroenterological, breast and colorectal cancer.
Lesley Hofer, APRN-C, earned her bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and her master of science in nursing from the University of Central Missouri. She is an oncology certified nurse and a certified family nurse practitioner. Lesley supports the physicians both in the inpatient and outpatient settings. She coordinates Shawnee Mission Cancer Center's survivorship program.
Lowell Byers, MD, is Board-certified in Gynecologic Oncology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Internal Medicine. He received his medical training at The University of Kansas School of Medicine, and completed residencies in both Internal Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. Byers completed his fellowship training in Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn. He is a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Kansas City Gynecologic Society and the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists. Byers treats pre-invasive and invasive diseases and performs minimally invasive procedures with the da Vinci® Surgical System, as well as laparotomies and radical surgery for all gynecologic cancers.
Michelle Dudzinski, MD, is Board-certified in Gynecologic Oncology and Obstetrics and Gynecology. She received her medical training at Boston University, and completed her residency at Duke University Medical Center and fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. She is a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Kansas City Gynecologic Society and the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists. Dudzinski provides treatment for all gynecologic malignancies including preinvasive and invasive disease with an emphasis on radical surgical procedures for gynecologic cancers and large pelvic masses.
Sara Lange, MD, is Board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Board-eligible in Gynecologic Oncology. She earned her medical degree from the University of Missouri–Columbia School of Medicine and completed her residency at Carolinas Medical Center Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She completed a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Washington University in St. Louis and she is a member of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists. She provides treatment for all types of gynecological malignancies and performs laparoscopic and da Vinci® Surgical System robotic procedures.
Brenda Shoup, MD, is Board-certified in Gynecologic Oncology and Obstetrics and Gynecology. She received her medical training at The University of Kansas School of Medicine, and completed her residency at University of Florida – Shands Hospital and fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology from The University of South Florida Moffitt Cancer Center. She is a member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Shoup performs minimally invasive procedures with the da Vinci® Surgical System and has special interest in treating pelvic masses and all gynecologic cancers, as well as patients with genetic predispositions to cancer.
Bobbe Anson, APRN, FNP-C, earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in nursing from the University of Kansas School of Nursing. She is a certified family nurse practitioner. Bobbe supports the physicians both in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
Niki Switzer, APRN, earned her Bachelor’s degree in nursing from William Jewell College and her Master’s degree in nursing from Graceland University. She also completed a post-Master’s certificate at Saint Luke’s College of Nursing. She is a certified family nurse practitioner. Niki supports the physicians both in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
Ragan VanLeeuwen, APRN, earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in nursing from the University of Missouri – Columbia. She is a certified family nurse practitioner. Ragan supports the physicians both in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
Michael A. Hughes, MD, earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Duke University in Biomedical Engineering. He performed biomedical research at Duke and later at the University of Kansas, publishing original research in the areas of geriatrics, rehabilitation medicine and biomedical engineering. He graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and his residency training was completed at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md., during which time he published original research in oncology. Dr. Hughes utilizes IMRT, high dose rate brachytherapy, and stereotactic radiotherapy for all types of cancer and specializes in breast, lung and prostate cancer.
Terry Wall, JD, MD, FACR, FASTRO, graduated with degrees in both medicine and law from the University of Kansas, during which time he was elected Chief Justice of the University Judiciary and was twice elected as President of the medical student body. He completed his radiation oncology training at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, where he served as Chief Resident and was awarded an American Cancer Society research grant. Wall has also served on the steering committee of the M.D. Anderson Alumni Association. Wall has been active in two major scientific organizations in the field of radiation oncology, the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO), having served on the ASTRO Board of Directors and as chairman of several ASTRO committees. He is faculty advisor for the national organization of residents training in radiation oncology (ARRO) and lectures annually at the ASTRO national meeting. He has been elected to fellowships in both the American College of Radiology and the American College of Legal Medicine.
Samuel K. Caughron, MD
Samuel K. Caughron, MD, received his medical degree and completed his residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology from Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Neb. He completed a fellowship in Molecular Genetic Pathology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. He is Board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, as well as Molecular Genetic Pathology. Dr. Caughron is one of fewer than 300 physicians in the world with ABP Board-certification in Molecular Genetic Pathology and one of very few who applies that training to clinical practice in a community setting.
Elizabeth M. Manion, MD
Elizabeth M. Manion, MD, is Board-certified in Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology. She earned her medical degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in Columbia, MO., and her Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, IA. Dr. Manion completed her Breast pathology and Surgical pathology fellowships at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Mass. Clinical area of interest includes breast cancer.

Gilda's Club Kansas City
AdventHealth is proud to partner with Gilda's Club Kansas City to provide free educational classes to those impacted by cancer. The professionally led workshops are for people living with cancer and their loved ones, so that no one faces cancer alone.
Gilda's Club Kansas City (GCKC) provides educational, social and emotional support for people impacted by any cancer - at no cost to our participants. Since opening, GCKC has continued to grow a program that includes support groups facilitated by licensed mental health professionals; educational classes and materials such as Frankly Speaking About Cancer series; healthy lifestyle workshops such as nutrition, exercise and arts; social activities such as comedy nights, cookouts and remembrances; and resource and referral programs including Open to Options™ (treatment decision model) and CancerSupportSource® (distress screening tool). Our programs are offered free of charge, removing a barrier for people of low-income levels and encouraging participation from people of all backgrounds, ages, gender, religious and spiritual beliefs, and at any stage of the cancer experience, including bereavement. GCKC fills a service gap in this region, as it is the only community-based program solely focused on meeting the psychological care needs of people impacted by cancer.
