Recently, Mildred experienced a frightening episode with her health. Struggling to breathe and fearing for her life, she decided to rush herself to the emergency department (ED) at AdventHealth Manchester. Upon arrival, Mildred explained that she could barely breathe and called for help from her vehicle. A bystander retrieved a member of the ED team, who then rushed into action. Mildred explained, “They wheeled me into the room and immediately went to work on me. They didn’t ask me how I was going to pay or anything, they just took care of me. […] They were very attentive.”

After being admitted to the hospital, Mildred said she received excellent care from the moment she arrived to discharge. She shared, “I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I’ve never really experienced any health problems. I was scared, but they made me feel so at ease.” Mildred continued saying, “Dr. Hays was so wonderful, he would just sit and talk to me. He took great care of me. […] My nurse, Katelynn Reid, did a great job too […] always checking on me and she did a great job when I had to get stuck for my IV. They all monitored me so closely and were so attentive to me.”

In addition to the great care she received from her medical team, Mildred shared that other team members added to the great experience she had, saying, “Even food service was wonderful to me […] they encouraged me to eat and would come back 2-3 times to see if I needed anything. […] Housekeeping would sit and talk to me and check on me. Everyone was perfect start to finish, I can’t say enough good things about how I was treated.”

Mildred said, “I really believe they saved my life. I couldn’t have waited another minute to get help. I couldn’t breathe. I don’t like being too far from my family and I’m so glad I could go somewhere close by to get help. I wouldn’t make it if I didn’t have my family close to me and it is hard for some of them to get transportation. I’m glad I was able to get taken care of somewhere that was close to my family.”
