KILLEEN, TX –Runners and walkers from across Central Texas will lace up their sneakers for one of the largest and oldest races in the area as Metroplex Health System hosts its annual Silver Classic 5K Run and 3K Walk on Sunday, March 19 beginning at 8:30 am.
The race is part of the Cen-Tex Race Series, which offers local runners over a dozen races throughout the year. Last year more than 500 participants registered for the race making it one of the largest in the series.
Participants of the Silver Classic are chip-timed and placed in gender groups based on age. Trophies are awarded to the male and female Runner/Walker with the best overall time, as well as 1st Place Runner/Walker in each category. Medals are awarded to 2nd and 3rd Place Runner/Walker in each category.
For a Good Cause
The Silver Classic is the primary fundraiser for the Metroplex Wellness department which promotes health and wellness in the community through free services and educational wellness classes.
“We are so thankful to all of our participants and supporters who help make this a successful race each year. Because of their support, we can increase the number of wellness offerings we provide each year,” said LaToya Ellis, wellness coordinator for Metroplex Health System. “The Silver Classic allows us to provide health services to the community, either free of charge or for a very nominal fee.”
