Neurofibromatosis

Neurofibromatosis is a hereditary disorder that causes tumors to develop on nerves and surrounding tissues throughout the nervous system – including the brain and spine. Though these tumors are usually benign, they can potentially become cancerous, and in any case may cause vision problems, abnormal spine development, cognitive impairment, cardiovascular issues and/or loss of hearing. AHMG physicians can provide access to AdventHealth for Children’s specially designed Neurofibromatosis Clinic, a state-of-the-art treatment facility for children and adults afflicted with this condition. They also provide long-term condition monitoring, genetic counseling and access to the latest clinical trials.
