Lung Cancer
Lung cancer is the top cause of death by cancer in both men and women. It is classified as either non-small cell lung cancer or small cell lung cancer according to the way its cells appear when examined via a microscope, and these two types grow and spread differently. The vast majority of patients diagnosed with lung cancer will have the non-small cell type. While smoking is the single most common cause of the disease, it is possible to develop it even if you’ve never smoked. Because of a lack of early symptoms, many lung cancers are diagnosed at a later stage, which makes them significantly more difficult to treat. Surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and clinical trials are the primary means of medical treatment to combat this disease.
