Gout
When uric acid builds up in the joints, gout (or gouty arthritis) may develop and cause a sensation of burning pain, swelling and discomfort. Some diets have been linked to the onset of gout, including diets rich in red meat, heavy sauces and shellfish, as well as an abundance of beans and lentils. Most patients' first experience with gout will involve throbbing pain in the big toe. Grout pain is usually acute, meaning it comes and goes throughout the day and night. Treatment for gout may include prescription medication, diet adjustments, ice therapy and wearing shoes that are specifically made for gout pain.
