About Our Program
Welcome to the PGY1 & PGY2 Health-Systems Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency Program.
A 1200+ bed acute care teaching hospital serving as a major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, AdventHealth Orlando is located in Orlando, Florida and treats over 32,000 inpatients and 125,000 outpatients annually. As a leader in evidence-based medicine, AdventHealth Orlando is home to a variety of nationally recognized institutes and programs such as Cardiology, Critical Care, Diabetes, Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Orthopedics, Neuroscience, and Solid Organ Transplant. Additionally, AdventHealth is one of the largest Medicare providers in the United States. Ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best hospitals in the United States and in the state of Florida, AdventHealth Orlando has a long standing history of excellence in patient care and provides a robust portfolio of specialty services as well as cutting edge clinical programs to highly complex patient populations.
This program integrates clinical practice with with Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA)/Master of Business Administration (MBA) coursework and administrative rotations to develop a foundation upon which the resident will build a career in health-system pharmacy administration and leadership. The first year of this PGY1/2 program aims for the resident to develop a strong clinical foundation with various opportunities to engage in administrative experiences. The second year focuses on the administrative aspect of this residency. Residents provide evidence-based patient care, lead process improvement initiatives, direct clinical programs and collaborative practice teams, facilitate medical staff committees, supervise pharmacy staff, and manage financial resources. Concentrated and longitudinal experiences develop resident mastery of team leadership, medication distribution and clinical practice management, medication use policy, quality and performance improvement, hospital regulation and accreditation, medication safety, and customer satisfaction. Graduates are highly competitive for a variety of hospital and health-system leadership positions and the dual MHA/MBA degree positions the resident for senior healthcare executive roles.
