VOLUSIA AND FLAGLER COUNTIES, Fla., September 14, 2017, 10 am Residents across the entire state of Florida are recovering from Hurricane Irma. The storm did not stop Florida Hospital from caring for patients in need of emergency care and performing surgeries throughout the weekend and into Monday. Below is a recap of Florida Hospitals efforts during the hurricane.
  • Medical care: The emergency department teams in Volusia and Flagler counties cared for snakebites, chainsaw injuries, and even a gunshot wound, as well as urgent heart and lung conditions. All in all, the Florida Hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties cared for 900 patients in the emergency departments during Hurricane Irma.
  • Employees: More than 1,500 Florida Hospital employees worked throughout the storm in Volusia and Flagler counties, and our robust physician staffing included radiology, pathology, cardiology, critical care and more.
  • Child care: With legions of employees called to work throughout the duration of Hurricane Irma, our team made accommodations for the on-site care of 126 children.
Now that Hurricane Irma has cleared the area, Florida Hospital anticipates a large influx of patients in need and the emergency departments stand ready. In addition, Florida Hospital Centra Care has five urgent care facilities open to patients with extended hours. Locations include:
  • 1014 W. International Speedway Blvd., Daytona Beach
  • 2293 S. Woodland Blvd., DeLand
  • 1360 Saxon Blvd., Orange City
  • 1270 Palm Coast Pkwy. NW, Palm Coast
  • 1208 Dunlawton Ave., Port Orange
Furthermore, Florida Hospital has extended its offer for free telemedicine via Florida Hospitals app, eCare. The virtual visits are typically $49, but now through Friday, Sept. 15, the service will remain completely free. Below is an update on each of the Florida Hospital facilities in Volusia and Flagler counties:
  • Florida Hospital DeLand in DeLand:
    • After a full assessment, Florida Hospital DeLand sustained no major damage during Hurricane Irma. All hospital services are open for normal business hours.
  • Florida Hospital Flagler in Palm Coast:
    • After a full assessment, Florida Hospital Flagler sustained no major damage during Hurricane Irma. All hospital services are open for normal business hours.
  • Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City:
    • After a full assessment, Florida Hospital Fish Memorial sustained no major damage during Hurricane Irma. All hospital services are open for normal business hours.
    • The freestanding outpatient facility Deltona Health Park is currently closed due to power loss, but will be opened as the area is assessed and power is restored.
  • Florida Hospital Oceanside in Ormond Beach:
    • The facility is being assessed and evaluated. The hospital will not be open for services until this work is complete.
  • Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach:
    • After a full assessment, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center sustained no major damage during Hurricane Irma. All hospital services are open for normal business hours.
  • Florida Hospital New Smyrna in New Smyrna Beach:
    • After a full assessment, Florida Hospital New Smyrna sustained no major damage during Hurricane Irma. All hospital services are open for normal business hours.

VOLUSIA AND FLAGLER COUNTIES, Fla., September 12, 2017, 11 am Across the state, residents have experienced damage, power outages and flooding resulting from Hurricane Irma. Words cannot begin to express how impressed I am with our team working through the day and night in these harsh conditions. Our staffs personal sacrifice has allowed our hospitals to live up to our commitment to our community, said David Ottati, CEO of the Florida Hospital Central Florida Division North Region. As the weather clears, we anticipate a large influx of patients in need after the storm and our teams stand ready. Below is an update on each of the Florida Hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties:

  • Florida Hospital DeLand in DeLand:

    • During Hurricane Irma, the hospital and emergency department remained open for patients with medical emergencies.

    • All elective procedures, diagnostic testing and outpatient appointments scheduled for today (Tuesday, Sept. 12) are cancelled, but will open tomorrow (Wednesday, Sept. 13) for normal business hours.

    • The freestanding outpatient facility Victoria Medical Park, with the exception of imaging services, is closed today (Tuesday, Sept. 12), but will open tomorrow (Wednesday, Sept. 13) for normal business hours.

    • All Florida Hospital HealthCare Partner physician offices are closed today (Tuesday, Sept. 12) to be assessed and evaluated. Many physician offices will reopen tomorrow (Wednesday, Sept. 13) for normal business hours, contingent upon assessment outcomes. Patients with physician appointments should call the doctors office directly to confirm their appointment.

  • Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City:

    • During Hurricane Irma, the hospital and emergency department remained open for patients with medical emergencies.

    • All hospital services are currently open for patients, including cardiopulmonary, rehab care, wellness, lab, wound care, radiation oncology and surgical services.

    • The freestanding outpatient facility Deltona Health Park is currently closed due to power loss, but will be opened as the area is assessed and power is restored.

    • All Florida Hospital HealthCare Partner physician offices are closed today (Tuesday, Sept. 12) to be assessed and evaluated. Many physician offices will reopen tomorrow (Wednesday, Sept. 13) for normal business hours, contingent upon assessment outcomes. Patients with physician appointments should call the doctors office directly to confirm their appointment.

  • Florida Hospital Flagler in Palm Coast:

    • During Hurricane Irma, the hospital and emergency department remained open for patients with medical emergencies.

    • The hospitals outpatient facilities, as well as the freestanding outpatient facilities Town Center Surgery and Parkway Medical Plaza, are currently undergoing assessments and will reopen as soon as the evaluations are completed.

    • All Florida Hospital HealthCare Partner physician offices are closed today (Tuesday, Sept. 12) to be assessed and evaluated. Many physician offices will reopen tomorrow (Wednesday, Sept. 13) for normal business hours, contingent upon assessment outcomes. Patients with physician appointments should call the doctors office directly to confirm their appointment.

  • Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach:

    • During Hurricane Irma, the hospital and emergency department remained open for patients with medical emergencies.

    • All freestanding Florida Hospital outpatient facilities, except for New Smyrna Beach Health Park and Port Orange Pavilion, are currently closed and being assessed for damages. We will be communicating plans for reopening as soon as the damage has been assessed.

    • The outpatient services at the freestanding facilities New Smyrna Beach Health Park and Port Orange Pavilion are currently open and available to patients.

    • All Florida Hospital HealthCare Partner physician offices are closed today (Tuesday, Sept. 12) to be assessed and evaluated. Many physician offices will reopen tomorrow (Wednesday, Sept. 13) for normal business hours, contingent upon assessment outcomes. Patients with physician appointments should call the doctors office directly to confirm their appointment.

  • Florida Hospital Oceanside in Ormond Beach:

    • The emergency department, as well as all outpatient services are currently closed. The facility is being assessed and evaluated today, Sept. 12, and will reopen as soon as possible.

    • All Florida Hospital HealthCare Partner physician offices are closed today (Tuesday, Sept. 12) to be assessed and evaluated. Many physician offices will reopen tomorrow (Wednesday, Sept. 13) for normal business hours, contingent upon assessment outcomes. Patients with physician appointments should call the doctors office directly to confirm their appointment.

  • Florida Hospital New Smyrna in New Smyrna Beach:

    • The emergency department has reopened and is available for patients seeking medical care as of Tuesday, Sept. 12, at 7 am

    • All inpatient services will reopen on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 7 am

    • The outpatient services will begin with limited services on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 7 am Patients with appointments for outpatient services should call the department to confirm their appointment. The hospitals phone number is 386-424-5000.

    • All Florida Hospital HealthCare Partner physician offices are closed today (Tuesday, Sept. 12) to be assessed and evaluated. Many physician offices will reopen tomorrow (Wednesday, Sept. 13) for normal business hours, contingent upon assessment outcomes. Patients with physician appointments should call the doctors office directly to confirm their appointment.

### VOLUSIA AND FLAGLER COUNTIES, Fla., September 9, 2017, 3 pm Impact winds from Hurricane Irma are expected to arrive in Volusia and Flagler counties Sunday and are forecasted to extend through Monday. In preparation for the storms impact, the Florida Hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties have taken the following protective actions:
  • Florida Hospital Oceanside in Ormond Beach transferred 31 patients to Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach on Sept. 8. and the emergency department is closed. The 80-bed facility is located beachside on A1A and is positioned within a mandatory evacuation zone in Volusia County.
  • Florida Hospital New Smyrna in New Smyrna Beach transferred approximately 50 patients to Florida Hospital DeLand in DeLand and Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City on Sept. 8. The emergency department ill close at 7 pm The 112-bed facility is located within a flood zone and is a few short blocks from the Intracoastal Waterway.
  • Florida Hospital DeLand in DeLand, Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City, Florida Hospital Flagler in Palm Coast, and Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach and the emergency departments are open for patients with medical emergencies.
It is important to note that the hospitals do not serve as hurricane shelters and community members are encouraged to either stay at a designated hurricane shelter or evacuate from the storms impact zone. Throughout Hurricane Irma, area residents will have free access to Florida Hospital eCare Urgent Care providers. This is a live and secure tele-health consultation for a range of urgent care services, such as pink eye, coughs/colds/flu, minor injuries, lower back pain, allergies, urinary tract infections, and more. Typically, the virtual visits are $49, but now through Tuesday, Sept. 12, Florida Hospital offers the service completely free. Hurricane Irma has been labeled the most powerful hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic Ocean and Florida Hospital is are not taking this threat lightly. Each of the Florida Hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties have individual hurricane plans to help staff prepare, respond and recover from a potential storm. Several considerations factor into the decision of whether or not to evacuate a hospital facility, such as wind speeds and storm surge. In an abundance of caution, protective actions taken at the Florida Hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties include:
  • Florida Hospital Oceanside is an 80-bed facility located beachside in Ormond Beach on A1A. This facility will evacuate 31 patients to Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach on Friday, September 8. The emergency department at this facility is also expected to close, however the exact time has not yet been determined.
  • Florida Hospital New Smyrna is a 112-bed facility located in New Smyrna Beach, a few short blocks from the Intracoastal Waterway. This facility will evacuate approximately 50 patients to Florida Hospital DeLand in DeLand and Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City on Friday, September 8. The emergency department at this facility is also expected to close, however the exact time has not yet been determined.
  • The ERs will be open and available for patients in emergency medical situations at:

    • Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach
  • All procedures, diagnostic testing and outpatient appointments scheduled for Monday, September 11 are cancelled and will need to be rescheduled for future dates.
  • All freestanding Florida Hospital outpatient facilities and employed physician offices will be closed on Monday, September 11. Depending on the storms track and localized impact, these facilities and offices plan to assess any damages on Tuesday, September 12 to evaluate reopening.
Every day, the staff at Florida Hospital work diligently to provide quality and compassionate care for the community and patients. Our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ continues to drive our team, even during inclement weather. Its essential that we keep the medical needs of our patients at the forefront of everything we do. As such, our hospitals need to be good stewards of each resource possibly needed during the duration of the hurricane (this includes space, water, food, etc.), especially given the uncertainty of how long these resources are needed. With this in mind, our hospitals are ready to serve patients, but are not designed to be emergency shelters.
