UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Bolingbrook, Hinsdale and La Grange hospitals earned the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke GOLD PLUS quality achievement award for 2023.
As a participant in the Get With The Guidelines® program, our hospitals qualified by demonstrating how we’re committed to improving quality care. We’re committed to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for treating heart disease and stroke, leading to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer hospital readmissions.
Every 40 seconds, someone in the United States has a stroke or heart attack. Heart disease and stroke are the number one and five causes of death in the U.S., respectively. However, studies show patients recover better when providers consistently follow treatment guidelines.
Get With The Guidelines® puts the expertise of the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association to work for hospitals nationwide, helping ensure patient care is aligned with the latest evidence-based guidelines.
“UChicago Medicine AdventHealth is committed to improving patient care by adhering to the latest treatment guidelines,” said UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Stroke Program Manager Caitlin Huseth.
Huseth added, “Get With The Guidelines® makes it easier for our teams to put proven knowledge and guidelines to work on a daily basis, which studies show can help patients recover better. The goal is to ensure more people in our communities can experience longer, healthier lives.”
Our hospitals also received the American Heart Association’s Target: Type 2 Honor Roll award, which helps ensure stroke patients with Type 2 diabetes — who might be at higher risk for complications — receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized.
“We are pleased to recognize UChicago Medicine AdventHealth for its commitment to caring for those in their community who need cardiovascular care,” said John Warner, MD, FAHA, past president of the American Heart Association and CEO of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
“Hospitals that follow the American Heart Association’s quality improvement protocols often see improved patient outcomes, fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates — a win for healthcare systems, families and communities.”
