NEW SMYRNA BEACH Fla., Nov. 1, 2023 – Following last week’s announcement regarding the transition of cancer treatment services at AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach, the health care organization has brought another new physician to the community.
Board-certified hematologist and oncologist Dr. Aruna Arekapudi has joined AdventHealth Medical Group and is now part of a team of over 400 health care providers, including 250 primary care physicians and specialists in Flagler, Lake and Volusia counties.
Arekapudi is the second cancer specialist to begin caring for patients at AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach. She joins the recently announced radiation oncologist Dr. Joyson Kodiyan in delivering cancer treatment through AdventHealth’s nationally recognized network of cancer care.
The AdventHealth Cancer Institute is ranked among the top 50 programs in the nation by U.S. News and World Report and recognized for excellence by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers and the American College of Radiology, among other respected organizations.
“We are deeply honored to embark on this journey of hope and healing with our patients,” said Jenna Van Gilder, regional director for clinical oncology operations at AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach. “We look forward to helping them write their own stories of triumph through the support of our highly skilled and nationally ranked team.”
With more than two decades of experience in caring for patients with cancer, Arekapudi treats conditions ranging from anemia and chronic leukemia to sickle cell disease, as well as breast, lung, colon, prostate, head and neck cancers. After completing her fellowship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Arekapudi provided care for communities throughout Kentucky.
“The addition of Dr. Arekapudi marks an exciting new chapter in cancer care for our neighbors in southeast Volusia County,” said Dr. Dennis Hernandez, president and CEO for AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach. “With a fantastic team and access to nationally recognized cancer services, we can offer exceptional clinical care right here in New Smyrna Beach.”
Arekapudi and Kodiyan’s practice is located at AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach, 401 Palmetto St., New Smyrna Beach, and can be reached at
