Micro pantry opens at UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Bolingbrook

A new way to fight hunger right outside Emergency Department doors.
New Micro Pantry Opens at Bolingbrook

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Bolingbrook has a brand-new micro pantry outside the Emergency Department, providing a simple but powerful way to serve our neighbors in need.

A micro pantry is a free, 24/7 resource stocked with nonperishable food where community members can “take what you need, leave what you can.” For those facing food insecurity, it offers immediate access to food with dignity and privacy—an extension of our mission and commitment to care for the whole person.

The new pantry was designed and built by community members Ashley Silmon and her father, Scott — the same team behind the Micro Pantry at Bolingbrook’s Fountaindale Library. When they learned of our aging pantry, they generously volunteered their time and talent to build a new one, ensuring this resource continues for years to come.

“This is a beautiful example of how a faith-based health system can partner with the community to extend the healing ministry of Christ beyond the hospital’s four walls,” said Mike Nunn, chief operating officer at UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Bolingbrook . “We are grateful for the Silmon family’s generosity. This pantry will be a blessing to many in need, and a visible reminder that our mission doesn’t end at our doors.”

Team members and community members are encouraged to help keep the pantry stocked with nonperishable food items (no glass containers, please). Together, we can ensure that no one in our community goes hungry.
