Jack is widely recognized by everyone he touches as a kind and compassionate caregiver, said Debra Allison, Florida Hospital DeLand director of cardiopulmonary and cardiovascular services. We are so proud of Jack and thankful for the sacred work he does, caring for patients day in and day out.
A patient who nominated Ross wrote that his compassion, support and professionalism in every aspect of my care quickly transformed my outpatient experience from one of high anxiety, to feeling as though I could easily lose all those cares His skill and demeanor truly make me feel like the healing ministry of Christ was in the room.
Ross is a registered nurse in Florida Hospital DeLand's cardiac catheterization lab.
In 1992, he started at Florida Hospital DeLand (which was then called West Volusia Memorial Hospital) as a 16-year-old in the cooperative health occupation program affiliated, with DeLand High School. He worked a variety of roles until he joining the U.S. Army and was trained as a combat medic.
After serving in the military for seven years, he returned to Florida Hospital DeLand, working in the emergency department, while also attending Daytona Beach Community College and earning his registered nursing degree. Throughout his career at Florida Hospital DeLand, Ross has worked in the progressive care unit, cardiac catheterization lab and wellness departments.
In recognition of this honor, Ross received a $200 gift card, a vase of daisies, an award pin, a tote bag, and a hand-carved stone sculpture of the Healers Touch by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.
His unit, Florida Hospital DeLand's cardiac catheterization lab, also received cinnamon rolls and a DAISY banner to display.
