Dementia is a loss of brain function that occurs with certain disease. AdventHealth’s Memory Care Clinic is dedicated to promoting lifelong brain health, and it is recognized as one of the nation’s only state-designated memory disorder clinics. As such, the Memory Care Clinic is able to provide greater access to memory care services and advanced support for both patients and their caregivers.
“As soon as a patient or their family members notice changes in memory, confusion or behavior, our Memory Care Clinic can help assess their diagnosis and treatment options,” said Stephanie Malally, a brain health clinical social worker with the AdventHealth Neuroscience Institute. Malally supports AdventHealth’s Memory Care Clinic, as well as its Maturing Minds program.
In a recent interview on Orange TV’s “Healthy Connections” program, Malally offered insight for community members who may be struggling with cognitive impairment. She described the comprehensive clinical care, education and other resources available to both patients and their caregivers. Free services include support groups for patients and caregivers, music therapy and exercise programs in addition to a wide range of brain health programs offered both virtually and in-person.
Malally underscored the difficulties patients and caregivers face when it comes to receiving a dementia diagnosis. The Memory Care Clinic aims to provide hope and holistic care to help mitigate the effects of dementias like Alzheimer’s disease and other memory disorders.
