Important Hurricane Matthew Updates

Florida Hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties:

As of today, October 12, at 1 pm, Florida Hospital New Smyrna has reopened to the community and all hospital services are open to patients.

Florida Hospital New Smyrna has been diligently working on cleaning up from Hurricane Matthew, and we appreciate the community's patience.

All other Florida Hospital locations in Volusia and Flagler counties are open and operating as normal. In addition to Florida Hospital New Smyrna, this includes Florida Hospital DeLand in DeLand, Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City, Florida Hospital Flagler in Palm Coast, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach, and Florida Hospital Oceanside in Ormond Beach.

Florida Hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties:

Words cannot begin to express how grateful we are to our extraordinary staff for their efforts during our preparations for Hurricane Matthew, as well as through the storm, and beyond into the recovery process. Our team members worked diligently to maintain our exceptional level of patient care, regardless of the weather and other challenges.

Below is an update on each of the Florida Hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties, which composes the Florida Hospital East Florida Region.

Florida Hospital DeLand in DeLand:

Florida Hospital DeLand, the Cancer Center and its outpatient facility Victoria Medical Park are both fully operational and open to patients.

During Hurricane Matthew, the hospital was not evacuated and the emergency department remained open for patients with medical emergencies.

Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City:

Florida Hospital Fish Memorial is fully operational and all inpatient and outpatient functions at the Saxon Blvd. address are open to patients today.

The hospitals outpatient facility Deltona Health Park was restored with power late on October 9 and is expected to reopen on Tuesday, October 11.

During Hurricane Matthew, the hospital was not evacuated and the emergency department remained open for patients with medical emergencies, caring for more than 200 patients at one point.

Twenty-four patients and 40 staff from Florida Hospital New Smyrna were evacuated to Florida Hospital Fish Memorial during the storm period. On October 9, the hospital discharged 18 of the Florida Hospital New Smyrna patients. The remaining six patients will stay at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial until they can be discharged.

Once the storm passed, the emergency department was very busy with patients needing medical care and treated more than 230 patients on October 9 in an already full facility.

Florida Hospital Flagler in Palm Coast:

During Hurricane Matthew, all inpatients at Florida Hospital Flagler were evacuated; however, the emergency department remained open throughout the storm's duration for patients with medical emergencies.

On October 8, inpatients who were evacuated to other facilities began returning to Florida Hospital Flagler.

Today, Florida Hospital Flagler and its outpatient facilities Parkway Medical Plaza and Town Center Surgery are fully operational and open to patients.

The Medical Office Building on the Florida Hospital Flagler campus is open, but physician offices may be closed due to staffing. Patients are advised to contact their physician offices directly for status.

Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach:

During Hurricane Matthew, the hospital was not evacuated and the emergency department remained open for patients with medical emergencies, having cared for 260 high acuity patients on October 8 and 217 high acuity patients on October 9.

At the height of the storm, the facility sheltered 325 patients and their families, staff members and their families in addition to 50 pets.

The Cancer Center, Florida Hospital Imaging and the outpatient facility at New Smyrna Health Park are fully functional and open to patients. However, all elective and non-emergent surgeries scheduled for today have been canceled.

Offsite locations at Daytona Beach Shores, Port Orange Pavilion, Reflections, and Sterthaus Annex are closed today, as they still do not have power.

Patients are advised to contact their physician offices directly for status of closure.

Florida Hospital Oceanside in Ormond Beach:

During Hurricane Matthew, all patients at Florida Hospital Oceanside were evacuated and the emergency department was closed.

Minor damage occurred at the facility and the hospitals engineering crews, as well as construction crews from Orlando-based contractor Robins and Morton, have been working diligently to prepare the facility for reopening.

Evacuated patients will be transferred back to the facility once the hospital is able to resume normal operations.

Florida Hospital Oceanside's emergency department will open at noon today.

Outpatient services including rehabilitation, laboratory services and imaging will remain closed until October 12 while the hospital concentrates on caring for patients in the emergency department.

Florida Hospital New Smyrna in New Smyrna Beach:

During Hurricane Matthew, all patients at Florida Hospital New Smyrna were evacuated and the emergency department was closed.

The facility lost power for the duration of the storm and is expected to resume normal operations on October 12.

Florida Hospitals in Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties:

We are pleased to share comprehensive preparations and protocols for Hurricane Matthew allowed Florida Hospital campuses to remain open throughout the storm and no significant issues have been reported.

For days, Florida Hospital prepared for Hurricane Matthews arrival, stockpiling thousands of gallons of water, prepping countless generators and stocking vital items such as sandbags. On Wednesday, we opened the hospital system command center to ensure a seamless coordination throughout the region. Each of the nine campuses in the tri-county area also opened a command center to coordinate response.

This proactive planning allowed a seamless transition as more than 100 adult and pediatric patients were evacuated from Florida Hospital coastal locations and admitted to campuses in Orange and Osceola counties.

On Thursday, more than 1,500 physicians and Florida Hospital employees spent the night at our campuses to ensure patients received ongoing, exceptional care during the storm. Many of those who spent the night at the hospital, including more than 100 physicians, did so voluntarily.

From physicians to nurses, to security teams to nutritional services, we commend everyone for their dedication to providing patients exceptional care during this stressful time, said Florida Hospital Orlando Senior Executive Officer Eric Stevens. We continue to pray for our neighbors who will be dealing with the impact of Hurricane Matthew in the days to come.

Florida Hospital leaders continue to monitor the storms aftermath and will respond accordingly.

Florida Hospitals in Flagler and Volusia counties:

Impact winds from Hurricane Matthew have arrived to Volusia and Flagler counties and extreme winds and wind gusts are forecasted to extend through Saturday morning.

The Florida Hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties, which composes the Florida Hospital East Florida Region, have additional protective actions taken to report:

Florida Hospital DeLand in DeLand has not been evacuated and the emergency department is open for patients with medical emergencies. For the safety of our patients and staff, all hospital entrances for visitors were locked on Oct. 6 at 7 pm, except for the emergency department and ambulance entrances.

Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City has not been evacuated and the emergency department is open for patients with medical emergencies. For the safety of our patients and staff, all hospital entrances for visitors were locked on Oct. 6 at 5 pm, except for the emergency department and ambulance entrances.

All patients at Florida Hospital Flagler in Palm Coast were evacuated. However, the emergency department remains open for patients with medical emergencies. For the safety of our patients and staff, all hospital entrances for visitors were locked on Oct. 6 at 2 pm, except for the emergency department and ambulance entrances.

Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach has not been evacuated and the emergency department is open for patients with medical emergencies. For the safety of our patients and staff, all hospital entrances for visitors were locked on Oct. 6 at 2 pm, except for the emergency department and ambulance entrances.

All patients at Florida Hospital Oceanside in Ormond Beach were evacuated and the emergency department is closed. The facility will not be evaluated until after the storm has passed.

All patients at Florida Hospital New Smyrna in New Smyrna Beach were evacuated and the emergency department is closed. The facility has experienced some roof breaches and has lost three of four canopies. The hospital has lost utility power, and although the facility does have back-up generators, city power will be required to begin recovery, and thus reopening the hospital on Sunday is doubtful with current and developing weather conditions.

The decision to evacuate was not an easy one. As the storm developed and approached the area, Florida Hospital leadership worked with local Emergency Operations Centers to make a decision to ensure the safety of patients and employees.

It is important to note that the hospitals do not serve as community hurricane shelters and community members are encouraged to either stay at a designated hurricane shelter or evacuate from the storms impact zone.

All shelters in east Volusia are full. Nine shelters still have capacity in West Volusia. More information can be found on the emergency management page onwww.Volusia.org.

Flagler County has activated three shelter sites, located at Buddy Taylor Middle School, Bunnell Elementary School, and Rymfire Elementary School (this is the only special needs location). More information can be found at www.flagleremergency.com.

Florida Hospitals in Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Lake counties:

An important message for all Florida Hospital patients and visitors:

The safety of our patients, visitors and employees is of the utmost importance. With the approach of Hurricane Matthew, we have undertaken extensive safety preparations. We have stockpiled thousands of gallons of water, generators are standing by to run the hospital on emergency power if necessary, and sandbags have been deployed to secure doors and windows.

Those patients whom physicians deem ready for discharge will be discharged Thursday before the storm arrives. Of course, many of our patients will remain here under medical care during the storm.

Family members of patients can rest assured that the hospital will be a safe place for their loved ones during the storm. We will be fully staffed and continue to deliver our excellent standard of care. And while we understand the desire to remain with your loved one during this time, we strongly encourage you to consider the advice of emergency officials to stay off the roads and remain at home until the storm passes.

Florida Hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties:

Evacuations are ongoing at Florida Hospital Flagler in Palm Coast. Patients will be transferred to other Florida Hospital facilities.

At this time, the Florida Hospital Flagler emergency department is currently open for medical emergencies.

The emergency department at Florida Hospital New Smyrna in New Smyrna Beach closed at 2 pm today.
