Walk, run, bike, swim, strike a yoga pose whatever the activity, Central Floridians are encouraged to add more movement into their lives. And with the Move60 Challenge, residents have more options to take healthy steps, while also having accountability, fun and be eligible for prizes.

Healthy Central Florida, AdventHealth and the Winter Park Health Foundation kick off the new Move60 Challenge on March 1, in which participants will embark on a 60-day program to keep them moving.

This initiative is designed to make being active fun, rewarding and literally a community-wide movement, said Healthy Central Florida Executive Director Jill Hamilton Buss. Were engaging schools, workplaces, faith communities and individuals, too. We had nearly 1,400 participants and more than 100 teams in our last challenge. We expect large numbers will participate again.

Move60 Challenge, sponsored by Florida Blue, is free, and weekly prizes like Fitbits, movie and restaurant gift certificates will be awarded for added incentive. Participants can sign up individually or recruit a team of friends or coworkers. Each registered participant will receive a Move60 t-shirt and pedometer, while supplies last.

Initiatives such as Move60 and Healthy Central Floridas similar Walk90 challenge have already changed lives in Central Florida.

Tammy Phillips saw drastic results after she joined a recent Walk90 challenge.

After simply being active and walking for 90 days, my blood sugar numbers had normalized, my diabetes numbers moved down to the pre-diabetic range, I no longer needed to use my sleep apnea machine and on top of that I lost 30 pounds, Phillips said.

Central Floridians are encouraged to join the upcoming Move60 challenge at hcf.walkertracker.com/ or healthycentralflorida.org/.
