AdventHealth emergency physicians were welcomed by cheering men, women and children as they descended in rural Puerto Rico via U.S. military Blackhawk helicopters.
The physicians, who have been providing care in Puerto Rico for nearly two weeks, described the emotional scene from the town of Morovis as they distributed much-needed medical supplies and provided health care.
For more than two weeks, various groups of AdventHealth doctors have been traveling to Puerto Rico witnessing firsthand the needs of communities in rural areas that are difficult to access.
On Saturday, another group of AdventHealth emergency physicians will extend the relief and medical efforts to the U.S. Virgin Islands. They will leave at 6 am Saturday on a commercial flight departing from Orlando International Airport, and head to St. Thomas. They will be providing relief to the islands physicians, who have been working 24/7 since Hurricane Maria struck.
Also this weekend, AdventHealth invites the community to join its Puerto Rico relief efforts by donating critical items such as canned food and baby supplies at a collection drive on Sunday. Details on the Blessings for Puerto Rico event are in the attached flyer.
