AdventHealth North Pinellas has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Advanced Total Hip and Knee Replacement Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.

After years of hard work and anticipation, AdventHealth North Pinellas underwent an on-site review on Nov 29-20, 2022. During the visit, Joint Commission surveyors evaluated compliance with dozens of certification standards developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. The reviewers also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

The accreditation, in collaboration with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, recognizes the highest standards of care during a total hip and total knee replacement, from pre-surgical orthopedic consultation to the interoperative and post-surgical follow-up care.

“As a heath care accreditor, The Joint Commission works with health care organizations across settings to help improve patient safety and quality of care through our expert resources and tools, innovative solutions and rigorous standards,” says Deborah Ryan, MS, RN, interim executive vice president, Accreditation and Certification Operations, The Joint Commission. “We commend AdventHealth North Pinellas for its commitment to advance safety and quality for all patients.”

This achievement tells our community that we have the resources and commitment to provide the best possible care for Hip and Knee replacement,” says Jen Segur, RN, Chief Nursing Officer. “It’s a combination of the right equipment, personnel and training to exhibit excellence in orthopedic surgery within the scope of Hip and Knee Replacement and related procedures. Achieving certification validates all the effort we have put into this program to ensure the health and safety of our patients.”

In June 2022, the hospital also opened a newly dedicated orthopedic and spine unit featuring 12-private patient rooms and a suite of comprehensive services. Patients also have access to the newest technology including the MAKO robotic arm that has been proven to facilitate a shorter hospital stay, typically less pain, and quicker return to function

As an accredited Total Joint Replacement program, patients can feel confident that they are treated with the most up to date, evidence-based practices that result in superior outcomes.
