Heart Attack Symptoms in Women

Women often experience different symptoms of a heart attack. 

A heart attack occurs when blood flow that brings oxygen to the heart is cut off or severely reduced. It is caused when arteries to the heart build up with fat, cholesterol or plaque. 

Heart attack symptoms in women include: 

  • Uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain in your chest
  • Pain or discomfort in one of both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach
  • Shortness of breath, with or without chest discomfort

Chest pain or discomfort is the most common symptom of a heart attack, but women are more likely to feel other symptoms such as shortness of breath, nausea or vomiting and back or jaw pain.
