To Optimize Your Health and Wellness
Senior citizen is a label to embrace and be proud of. After all, these golden years are all about you – about indulging in your passions, interests and spending time with the people you love most.
At AdventHealth Heart of Florida, formerly Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center, we’re here to help you most of these years. Our comprehensive senior citizen care includes preventive, diagnostic and treatment services to help you stay healthy and happy.
- Behavioral Health
As we age, we undergo changes in our home life, physical and mental capabilities, community involvement and social life. Sometimes, talking to someone who can help us sort it all out is the best way to develop an overall plan to feel in control and on track. Our senior health care services include behavioral health specialists who can help you feel whole in body, mind and spirit.
- Diabetes Care
Tracking and controlling diabetes is critical, especially for those who may be less mobile and less able to shop regularly for healthy meals. Our diabetes care team will ensure you’re getting the preventive care you need and teach you about any warning signs that need attention immediately. Our nutritionists can develop healthy meal plans for you to simplify your life and balance your carbs and sugar.
- Heart Care
Heart care is a critical component of our geriatric services. Our hard-working hearts need extra attention as we get older. Arteries can harden and experience blockages. Heart rhythms can start to be off, too fast or too slow.
Heart diagnostic imaging can pinpoint problems so our cardiologists and radiologists can take action with interventional cardiology. We’re proud to offer medical services for older adults in need of heart care.
- Internal Medicine
Our primary care and internal medicine teams look forward to working with you on preventive care, annual checkups and other health care needs. At AdventHealth Heart of Florida, senior citizen care includes screenings like blood pressure checks at each appointment, lab work to detect important changes and cancer screenings, such as mammograms, prostate checks and colonoscopies.
We’re committed to keeping you healthy in body, mind and spirit. That’s why our neurologists consider senior care an important part of their mission.
All of us feel forgetful during times of stress, while multitasking or with busy schedules. Our neurologists can determine if your forgetfulness is part of the normal aging process or if it’s a sign of something more serious, like Alzheimer’s or dementia.
We also evaluate and treat Parkinson’s and other movement disorders, such as tremors.
Our ophthalmologists can learn a lot about your overall health through eye exams – including your risk of diabetes and high blood pressure. Ophthalmologists can also recognize age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma before vision is drastically altered. Discover how staying on top of your eye health can improve your overall health and wellness.
Our bones become more fragile as we age. For women, this is more pronounced after menopause. Bone density testing with DXA scans will help your doctor determine the health of your bones.
Wear and tear over the years can also lead to joint damage and arthritis. If it becomes necessary to replace knees or hips, we will be there with you every step of the way, pre-op, post -op and rehab.
- Pulmonary Medicine
You can breathe easy, with our respiratory care specialists treating conditions that affect your lungs, from a common condition like bronchitis to a more complicated diagnosis.
Diseases that affect the lungs as we age, such as emphysema and pulmonary hypertension, can be alarming and require more advanced care. Our pulmonologists collaborate with other senior care providers, including cardiologists, interventional radiologists and surgeons to provide comprehensive care to our patients.
Diseases under the umbrella of rheumatology affect the joints, connective tissues and organs, and can cause inflammation, swelling and pain in the joints or muscles.
Arthritis is one of the most common rheumatoid conditions. Our rheumatologists work in collaboration with orthopedists, physical therapists and pain management specialists for a complete continuity of care.
- Stroke Care
Advances in stroke care offer promising, prompt and effective treatments to those who experience strokes. The key is early intervention. Know the signs of a stroke and get emergency care quickly so doctors can determine whether clot-busting medications can quickly turn around the effects of the stroke.
AdventHealth Heart of Florida attained The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check mark for Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers.
For those who require physical or occupational therapy after a stroke, our rehabilitation specialists will give you encouragement and confidence to work toward your recovery.
Navigate Your Care with Confidence
Understanding your health insurance coverage can be just as confusing as understanding the medical services that are right for you. That’s why we’re here to help you navigate Medicare, Medicaid and other insurance options to coordinate your senior care smoothly.
