DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., June 29, 2016 Throughout June, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center employees volunteered to support the Salvation Armys residential treatment facility and transitional housing at 560 Ballough Road, Daytona Beach.
Staff donated supplies to the Salvation Army, including deodorant, tissues, razors and more.
The individuals at the Salvation Army were overwhelmed by our employees support. We had enough donations to fill up 10 large Rubbermaid container, said Farzad Nourian, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center administrative director of mission and ministry. We chose to partner with the Salvation Army because of the wonderful and mission-focused work they do.
On June 6, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center employees painted three bathrooms at the residential treatment facility and transitional housing at 560 Ballough Road, Daytona Beach.
On June 11, the hospital staff provided free health services for women at the facility. Women ranging in ages 22 to 59 took advantage of the free pap smears, screenings for pelvic pain and STDs, as well as clinical breast exams on the hospitals Wellness On Wheels, or WOW, bus stationed outside.
The Salvation Army has a need for clinical services for the homeless and those in transition which became one of our focus areas, Nourian said. Many of the women we cared for told us they would not have had these screenings done if we had not been able to come to them. We know these screenings can potentially be lifesaving, so we felt blessed to have the opportunity to help care for these women in need.
