PALM COAST, Fla., August 17, 2017 With help from donors, Florida Hospital HospiceCare Foundation purchased eight new recliners for each of the private patient rooms at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House, located on the campus of Florida Hospital Flagler in Palm Coast.
The gift was inspired by Linda Kremkaus recent experience at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House when her husband, Randy, passed away in Dec. 2016.
While Randy was a patient, Kremkau and her son Kevin both stayed by his side. The rooms already have a sleeper sofa, but with the two of them staying with Randy overnight, they noticed that an additional recliner to accommodate another overnight visitor would be helpful.
For two nights, my son and I took turns trying to sleep on the pullout sofa in Randys room while the other person kept vigil in a chair. Those were long nights, she said. After Randy passed away, I got to thinking about all the other families who spend restless hours watching over their loved ones in the Stuart F Meyer Hospice House. Its a small thing, I know. But in my experience, the little things gave us great comfort and helped carry us through.
Many families in similar circumstances will be blessed for years to come through Linda's inspiration. These sleeper/recliners fill a very real need and are already being used by grateful patients and their visiting families, said Bill Tol, Florida Hospital HospiceCare Foundation director.
Opened in 2007, the Stuart F Meyer Hospice House is the community's most comprehensive hospice, offering acute, respite, home health and continuous care. No other hospice in Flagler County offers all four services.
The care we received from the staff and volunteers at Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House was phenomenal, Kremkau said. And when I say we, I mean my whole family. They were exceptionally attentive to my husband, Randy, and they treated all of us with a level of kindness that went far beyond a job description.
