Life often moves through routines — grocery trips, school pickups, workdays — until everything changes in a moment. For David, that moment came with a diagnosis of cancer. What followed was a powerful story of resilience, love and faith that continues to inspire.

A Life Rooted in Faith and Compassion

David was a beacon of positivity and resilience in the face of his journey with cancer. He understood the power of mindset and chose to live his life fully, refusing to let his diagnosis define him. With a smile that could light up a room, David embraced each day with a sense of gratitude and strength.

Philippians 4:13 beautifully states, “I can do everything through him who gives me strength.” David embodied this sentiment, drawing strength from his faith and those around him.

David’s journey in life was driven by a passion for technology and a heart full of compassion. With a bachelor’s degree in computer science, he embarked on a career in information technology. His professional path led him to join the AdventHealth team, where he aligned his work with his values and our mission of Extending the Healing Ministry of Christ.

As the second youngest of five siblings, David was the familial glue, bringing everyone together with his warmth and kindness. In 2014, David met Heather, the love of his life. Their bond was joyful, silly and strong. Heather’s presence became a constant source of love and support, and their partnership was a blessing David cherished deeply.

A Sudden Diagnosis, A Journey of Strength

In 2019, after months of fatigue and pain, David was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. It was Heather who recognized the severity of his symptoms and insisted he go to the AdventHealth Waterman emergency room — a decision that marked the beginning of David’s cancer journey.

Doctors discovered a blockage that required emergency surgery. This operation was the first of many steps in a challenging path. David faced 18 rounds of chemotherapy with determination and grace, always supported by his wife and his medical team.

Care That Made a Difference

Heather praised the compassionate care provided by Florida Cancer Specialists and Dr. Maen Hussein. The team’s attentiveness and kindness made all the difference during David’s most vulnerable moments. “Everyone remembers you, everyone was kind and thoughtful. I love the Bible scriptures everywhere! They don’t realize what that does for a family that is struggling.”

She continues, “Even through COVID-19, they let me stay with him… I was his caregiver, and they let me be part of his care. That meant everything.”

Cancer in America: Why Your Support Matters

According to the American Cancer Society, more than 2 million new cancer cases are projected in 2025 in the U.S. alone. Colon cancer is expected to result in over 150,000 new cases and nearly 53,000 deaths. These sobering numbers highlight the urgent need for continued access to advanced cancer care and community support.

Leave a Legacy of Hope

David’s story reminds us that cancer may challenge the body, but it cannot break the human spirit when it’s fueled by love, faith and community. With your support, we can continue offering care that is not only expert, but deeply personal. Together, we nurture hope and healing — one life, one family, one story at a time.
