Scoliosis Correction
Scoliosis correction is a surgical procedure to eliminate an unnatural curvature of the spine. This is done by removing degenerating disks, relieving spinal compression and fusing two or more vertebrae for stability using a bone graft material and/or permanently placed instrumentation in the form of rods, screws and plates. The surgery can be performed using minimally invasive techniques that avoid harming the musculature of the back. Recovery time will depend upon the scale of the corrective surgery and the patient’s overall condition. Following the surgery, curvature of the back is reduced by approximately half, and no further curvature can occur.
