Renal Ultrasound
Renal ultrasound is a completely painless and noninvasive imaging test that employs sound wave technology to create images of the kidneys, ureters and bladder on a monitor and assist in diagnosing a variety of urologic conditions. Such testing may be used to detect and evaluate injuries, stones, cysts or tumors in the kidneys as well as complications from a urinary tract infection, blockages and other anatomical abnormalities. It can also help evaluate how well blood is flowing to the kidneys. The test is conducted by placing an ultrasound transducer on the skin above the affected organs. Ultrasound gel is applied to help the transducer move smoothly over the area and keep air from getting between the skin and the instrument.
