PVCs, or premature ventricular contractions, are “extra” heartbeats that are initiated in the lower chambers of the heart. Many people will experience PVCs at one time or another – it’s a fairly common occurrence that some will describe as feeling as if their heart “skipped a beat.” When a healthy person experiences PVCs now and then, there may be no need to be concerned – however, those who have another heart condition and/or who experience this feeling quite often should be evaluated by a cardiologist. Possible causes of the problem may include certain medications, high stress that prompts your body to release extra adrenaline, chemical changes and heart muscle injuries.
