Preconception Counseling
Preconception counseling helps prospective parents to understand any health factors that may put the mother or child at risk during pregnancy and ensures that proactive treatment can be applied for certain medical problems before conception occurs. Couples who are considering getting pregnant should set up a preconception counseling appointment with a qualified OB-GYN. It’s also a good idea to have a thorough medical exam several months to a year prior to trying to get pregnant to allow time for any health condition that may be identified to be properly addressed. In addition, preconception counseling may include a discussion of environmental and lifestyle factors that may affect your health and that of your baby, dietary requirements and/or restrictions, current medications, blood tests and certain immunizations.
