Minor Surgery
Minor surgeries are those that can be performed on an outpatient basis right in the doctor’s office, without the need for an operating room and/or general anesthesia. Such surgery may include skin biopsies, incision and drainage of cysts and abscesses, removal of ingrown toenails, mole and wart removal, surgical treatment of minor burns, hemorrhoid banding procedures, debridement of minor infected wounds, and wound closures via stitches and sutures. These low-risk procedures may also include joint injections, spider vein treatments, trigger point injections, and removal of splinters and/or other foreign bodies. Primary care physicians and many specialists can provide such minor surgeries as part of their comprehensive care options, allowing their patients to avoid a trip to the emergency room for a non-life-threatening condition.
