Kidney Surgery
Kidney surgery can refer to a wide range of procedures used to treat kidney infections, chronic kidney diseases, kidney stones, renal hypertension, traumatic injuries, kidney failure and kidney cancer. Such procedures include ureteral surgery to remove stones or strictures; nephrectomy and radical nephrectomy; partial nephrectomy, percutaneous nephrolithotomy or nephrolithotripsy to remove kidney stones, radical nephroureterectomy to remove the kidney and ureter; live donor nephrectomy for transplantation; and kidney transplants. Our surgeons are specially trained in minimally invasive techniques that can be applied in most cases, depending on the patient and their specific condition. Patients diagnosed with kidney cancer may be recommended for a radical nephrectomy, which is the excision of one of the two kidneys plus surrounding lymph nodes and the adrenal gland. Some such patients may be candidates for partial nephrectomy, where only the tumor and immediately surrounding tissue are removed.
