Hyperlipidemia
Hyperlipidemia is a mostly symptomless but chronic disorder in which too many fatty substances are present in the blood. In most cases, the substances that are out of proportion to what they should be are cholesterol and triglycerides. Millions of people have this condition, but the only way to know it before long-term complications arise is through blood tests performed during regular health evaluations. Over time, hyperlipidemia causes hardening of the arteries – a condition called atherosclerosis – which puts you at higher risk of a heart attack or stroke. Effective treatments for hyperlipidemia include oral and injected medications and lifestyle modifications with regard to diet and exercise.
