Endovascular Surgery
Endovascular surgery is a method of addressing peripheral artery disease, abdominal aortic aneurysms and other blood vessel problems by threading a narrow catheter through an artery or vein in the groin area to the place where surgical repair can be accomplished using a stent graph, balloon (angioplasty), laser therapy, radiofrequency ablation or other means. In the case of an aortic aneurysm, the repair may be accomplished using a special fabric tube with expandable stents, which is introduced to the body through an artery, carefully positioned within the aorta, then expanded to provide a permanent fix. By eliminating the need for open surgery that would have required an incision through the chest, the endovascular approach significantly reduces patient discomfort, time spent in the hospital and recovery times.
