Diabetic Counseling
Diabetes is a disease that affects how the body uses blood glucose, also known as blood sugar. Glucose is vital to a person’s health because it's an important source of energy for the cells that make up the muscles and tissues. Diabetes symptoms vary depending on how high the blood sugar is elevated. Some people, especially those with prediabetes or Type 2 diabetes, may not experience symptoms initially. In Type 1 diabetes however, symptoms tend to come on quickly and be more severe. Diabetic counseling helps patients to identify their symptoms, understand how their body functions and recognize the right nutritional and lifestyle choices that will allow them to effectively manage their condition over the long term. Such counseling may include educational sessions, support groups and advice on weight management, physical fitness and nutrition.
