Developmental Screening
Developmental screenings are conducted by your health professional at every well-child visit. Your doctor will look for and track any developmental delays or problems (this is also known as developmental tracking or surveillance). To detect such issues, your physician may observe how your child plays, learns, communicates and moves. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that all children receive such screening at 9 months, 18 months and 24-30 months. If your child is at high risk for developing problems due to preexisting conditions, then additional screening may be requested. Early detection of developmental delays in children is key to providing effective treatment that will allow them to more easily participate in social and educational activities as they grow to maturity.
