Curettage
For dermatologic purposes, curettage is an in-office surgical procedure used to remove abnormal skin tissue by scraping or scooping at the skin with a small, spoon-shaped tool. The procedure usually requires the use of a local anesthetic. Curettage is a quick treatment that removes part of an affected area of skin for purposes of a biopsy or to remove small growths and lesions. Most patients are able to return to their regular activities within a few days. It is common to have mild pain or light bleeding after a curettage procedure – this should go away after a few days.
