Clubfoot Correction Procedures

Clubfeet may be diagnosed before the child is born during a routine check-up via an ultrasound. A clubfoot occurs in approximately one in every 1,000 births and is more common in boys than in girls. While not a painful condition, clubfeet could lead to discomfort and problems later on if left untreated. The appearance of a clubfoot is distinctive - the foot is turned to the side and it may even appear that the top of the foot is where the bottom should be. Doctors have not determined the exact cause, although some believe the condition to be hereditary. A baby's chance of having a clubfoot is twice as likely if the parents or other children in the family have it. Both non-operative and operative clubfoot correction procedures are available -- your doctor will create a plan of care that suits the severity of your child’s condition.
