Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
COPD is a lung disorder that commonly occurs in the form of emphysema or chronic bronchitis. People with this disease experience problems breathing, chronic coughing, wheezing and excessive production of sputum due to inflammation in the lungs that is caused by prolonged exposure to cigarette smoke or other airborne irritants. While not curable, COPD can be treated and its symptoms effectively managed. However, damage sustained by the lungs as a result of COPD cannot be reversed. Treatment for this condition generally consists of oral or inhaled medications.
