Health System Administration and Leadership Post-Graduate Year 2 Residency Program (HSPAL)

The AdventHealth Corporate HSPAL residency program seeks to develop our residents' competence in delivering patient-centered care and pharmacy business services. This program prepares future leaders who can assume leadership and managerial responsibilities and lays the foundation for continued growth in pharmacy management.

The program offers an immersive and inspirational learning experience with a wide range of learning experience options led by experienced, highly trained faculty. The program provides opportunities to work with health care leaders across our 50+ hospital system.

Personal and Professional Development
The AdventHealth PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration & Leadership (HSPAL) Residency prepares pharmacists to become effective, compassionate and innovative leaders within complex health care systems. Based at the AdventHealth Corporate office in Altamonte Springs, Florida, residents gain a system-wide perspective on pharmacy operations, strategy and leadership across one of the largest faith-based health care systems in the United States. Our program builds upon foundational clinical and leadership experiences from PGY1 to cultivate executives capable of driving performance, quality and safety while promoting AdventHealth’s mission of Extending the Healing Ministry of Christ.

Program Mission

To develop transformational pharmacy leaders who advance the profession through operational excellence, servant leadership and whole-person care within a faith-based, mission-driven health system.

Program Highlights

  • Exposure to a multi-hospital system encompassing acute, ambulatory and specialty care services.
  • Dual emphasis on operational and clinical leadership, including project management, quality improvement and strategic planning.
  • System-level learning through collaboration with the AdventHealth pharmacy leadership team and executive committees.
  • Teaching and mentoring opportunities with PGY1 residents and student pharmacists.
  • Personalized leadership development plan aligned with ASHP’s HSPAL competencies and AdventHealth’s values.
  • Research, scholarship and teaching
    • Residents complete a major research or quality improvement project addressing a system-level pharmacy need. Residents will also:
      • Deliver presentations to pharmacy, nursing and administrative audiences.
      • Participate in teaching certificate programs through affiliated universities.
      • Present results at regional and national conferences (e.g., FSHP, ASHP Midyear).
  • Mentorship and Professional Growth
    • Residents are guided by senior pharmacy leaders across AdventHealth, including the Chief Pharmacy Officer, System Directors and Clinical Managers. Mentorship focuses on:
      • Change management
      • Leadership communication and emotional intelligence
      • Networking and professional development
      • Strategic decision-making

  • Estimated Annual Stipend: $56,500/year + meeting travel support and fees for completion of an ASHP Professional Certificate program
  • Immediate medical, dental and vision insurance
  • No staffing commitment required
  • Participation in national and local meetings and regional resident conferences, as applicable
  • 10 days paid vacation

Applicant must have a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, and licensure in at least one state.

Applicants for the PGY-2 pharmacy residency position must apply through the ASHP Resident Match Program.
