We are excited to honor Linda and Brian Chisholm as our October 2019 Volunteers of the Month.
Each October in the quaint town of Celebration, FL, hundreds gather for Pink on Parade to celebrate the brave women in our community battling breast cancer, survivors who have won their fight and those who shine on through their loved ones.
Linda and Brian have been instrumental in the success of this event for the past five years. As team captain for “Breast Buddies” Linda’s team has consistently been 1st place for most money raised. She and Brian come to committee meetings, help with packet pickup and assist to find new sponsors. They help with anything and everything.
“Volunteering with Pink on Parade has made me a grateful breast-cancer survivor,” says Linda. “I thank the staff and doctors at AdventHealth and Pink on Parade for their love, kindness and support to me and our community of breast-cancer patients. To have the love and support of others changes your life completely!”
Brian began volunteering with Pink on Parade after Linda was diagnosed with breast cancer. “The last several years have been a roller coaster ride for us,” Brian recalls. “Linda has greatly benefited from the support given to breast-cancer patients and survivors.”
Two years ago, Brian began serving at AdventHealth Hospice as a Vigil Volunteer to make sure no one dies alone. Prior to his real estate career, Brian was a mortician and he and Linda met in the Baltimore area when she managed a cemetery and he owned and operated a funeral home. “Brian’s professional background and compassionate heart are a perfect fit for helping Hospice patients and families,” says Linda.
In addition to their activities with AdventHealth, Brian and Linda volunteer at Garden Theatre and Meals on Wheels and have found that connecting with others and building relationships to be a key to positive living. Stemming from Linda’s job at Walt Disney World, the Chisholm’s offer a “home away from home” for many young Disney employees who have moved alone to Central Florida.
Outside of volunteering, Brian and Linda enjoy traveling by RV with their Norfolk Terrier, Maggie, and have visited most of the East Coast including Barr Harbor, ME, where they married 23 years ago.
For this dynamic Winter Garden couple, supporting AdventHealth’s Pink on Parade and Hospice is a personal mission. Both Brian and Linda concur: “When you volunteer and give of yourself the reward is always for you!”
We are grateful for the passion and dedication of volunteers like the Chisholm’s!
