ORANGE CITY, Fla., November 7, 2017 On Nov. 1, Florida Hospital Fish Memorial hosted a birthday celebration for volunteer Georgette Jones.
Jones turns 99 on Nov. 14 and has been volunteering at Florida Hospital in the pastoral care department for 16 years. In 2001, she began volunteering at Florida Hospital DeLand, but switched to Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in 2011 because the Orange City hospital was located closer to her home in DeBary.
Georgette has been a faithful part of the pastoral care volunteer team for over 15 years, said Beth Grant, Florida Hospital Fish Memorial senior chaplain. She is known all throughout the hospital for her energy, quick humor, and loving prayers that she shares with everyone she comes in contact with. Everyone who has had a chance to meet Georgette, never forgets their encounter with this special lady.
The pastoral care volunteers are specifically charged with extending the presence of spiritual care to patients. These volunteers do not counsel or provide clinical pastoral services, but rather, they are skilled listeners who have a compassionate heart and a willingness to allow Gods Holy Spirit to work through their presence to bring comfort and hope.
