PORT ORANGE, Fla. – Urologists Dr. Bennett Scaglia and Dr. Shawn Thomas have joined AdventHealth Medical Group and will perform procedures at AdventHealth Daytona Beach and AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach, with a clinic location at the Port Orange Health Park.
Both Scaglia and Thomas previously cared for patients for many years at UF Health Urology at Halifax Health, where Scaglia also served as medical director.
As AdventHealth Medical Group physicians, they join AdventHealth’s employed group of physicians with more than 400 health care providers, including 250 primary care physicians and specialists in Volusia, Flagler and Lake counties.
Scaglia is a board-certified urologist who earned his medical degree from New York Medical College. He subsequently completed seven years of general surgery and urology residency training at New York Medical College as well.
Scaglia has a particular interest in both robotic surgery and minimally invasive procedures with a focus on treating cancer of the kidneys, bladder and male reproductive organs. He is also an assistant professor at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville.
“I’ve been a practicing urologist in this area for almost 15 years,” said Scaglia. “I am confident that collaborating with AdventHealth will enhance my ability to deliver state-of-the-art urology care to our community.”

He completed his residency training in general surgery and urologic surgery at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He went on to complete a fellowship in Urologic Oncology at the Cleveland Clinic in Weston, Florida. Prior to locating to Volusia County, he served as an attending urologic surgeon at White Wilson Medical Center and Wuesthoff Medical Center in Florida.
Thomas has written numerous research papers and presented them at medical conferences around the country.
“As a Volusia County provider for over a decade, I look forward to partnering with AdventHealth to offer urologic care for patients for many years to come,” said Thomas. “I am excited to establish collegial relationships with AdventHealth providers committed to patient health and wellbeing.”
