Teacher Sara Smith’s third-grade class at Bunnell Elementary School has proudly named the newest surgical robotic system at AdventHealth Palm Coast Parkway, “Sergio McHand.”
"We are so proud of the students. To work on science and STEM, then have it come to real life and see the pictures of the robot that has our name on it, we are just thankful to AdventHealth for doing this for us,” said Smith.
Students throughout Flagler Schools were invited to join in a recent naming contest for AdventHealth’s second da Vinci XI surgical system. There were 15 names submitted from Flagler Schools, preschool through eighth grade.
On May 17, AdventHealth Palm Coast Parkway CEO Wally De Aquino celebrated the winning class of 20 third graders with Chick-fil-A and AdventHealth swag bags.
“We are so excited to welcome Sergio McHand to our surgical team and appreciate the students for coming up with such creative names,” De Aquino said. “This robot will have such a lasting positive impact on our patients and their families.”
AdventHealth has a proven track record of performing robot-assisted surgeries, with a focus on orthopedic, gynecological, general and urological procedures. In the last year, the county’s newest hospital, AdventHealth Palm Coast Parkway, introduced a robotics program, featuring the community’s only Aquablation system and bringing a second da Vinci surgical system to Flagler County. The first robot is located at AdventHealth Palm Coast.
